Position Overview:

The University of Rochester's Department of Psychiatry is actively seeking a dedicated physician to become part of our dynamic primary care and hospitalist team within the Medicine in Psychiatry Division. This full-time role is intended for board certified or board eligible Internists, Family Medicine Physicians, or Medicine-Pediatricians to function as an attending physician, addressing the medical needs of individuals with severe mental health conditions.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Engage in two primary care components: providing services at the URMC Substance Strong Recovery and Addiction Services (50%) and serving as a hospitalist within the Inpatient Medicine in Psychiatry Service units at Strong Memorial Hospital/URMC (50%).
  • Deliver acute inpatient medical care for patients who may present with severe mental illnesses and/or substance use disorders alongside acute medical conditions.
  • Participate in a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care.

Academic Appointment:

This position includes an academic appointment at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, with rank determined by experience and achievements. Faculty development opportunities are abundant within a strong mentorship framework. Faculty appointments will primarily be with the Department of Psychiatry, with a secondary appointment based on the physician's board certification or eligibility.

Teaching and Supervision:

Involvement in the education and clinical supervision of psychiatric residents, fellows, medical students, and other trainees is a key aspect of this role. Additionally, participation in process improvement and program development initiatives is expected.

Work Schedule:

For the inpatient component, physicians will typically work approximately 14 weeks per year. In the outpatient setting, physicians will conduct half-day clinics, allowing ample time to manage patients' medical complexities with robust nursing support. Call responsibilities are manageable, occurring every five weeks.
