Senior Curator of Antiquities

The J. Paul Getty Museum is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Curator of Antiquities to lead the curatorial team at the Getty Villa. The successful candidate will be responsible for the presentation and interpretation of the Villa's collection of ancient art and antiquities, as well as coordinating international loan exhibitions and developing public programs.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise a team of curators and support staff, providing intellectual leadership and nurturing staff development.
- Oversee the display and interpretation of the antiquities collection in the Villa Galleries.
- Develop and implement exhibitions, research programs, and related publications.
- Represent the Getty Villa and its programs to global audiences, fostering collaborations with foreign governments and museums.
- Lead the Villa Council, securing donations and loans to the collection.
- Collaborate with the Department of Development to secure sponsors for exhibitions and programming.
- Administer the departmental operating budget.
- Ph.D. or equivalent qualification in archaeology or ancient art of the Mediterranean world.
- Experience in supervising staff and working effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Proven track record of curating exhibitions and developing public programs.
- Strong network of international contacts within the museum and academic communities.
- Knowledge of the antiquities market and a record of scholarly research, publication, and public presentation.
- Deep knowledge of Greek, Etruscan, and Roman art, as well as specialized expertise in a particular period or aspect of the ancient classical world.
- Demonstrated scholarly knowledge of adjacent non-Classical cultures.
- Commitment to the understanding, preservation, and interpretation of antiquities, with a desire to engage with new and diverse audiences.
