Job Title: Resource LPN

At The Portland Clinic, we strive to provide exceptional patient care and a welcoming environment for our patients and community. We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Resource LPN to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Resource LPN will provide professional nursing care for the comfort and well-being of patients in a clinical setting. This includes performing focused assessments, administering medications, and documenting patient information in the electronic health record.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform focused assessments and triage on routine or self-limiting medical conditions, via phone and in-person encounters, as directed by the RN/Provider.
  • Administer various medications (including parenteral, oral, and/or topical) and document per TPC policy.
  • Monitor and respond to incoming My Chart messages, gather appropriate information, and relay it to the appropriate staff member.
  • Prepare patients for exam or treatment by proper setup of the exam/treatment room and rooming the patient utilizing The Portland Clinic's (TPC) rooming protocol.
  • Assist the provider as needed with diagnostic and/or surgical procedures and exams specific to the department.
  • Clean exam and procedure rooms throughout the day as required by OSHA and as needed.
  • Follow The Portland Clinic (TPC) guidelines for documentation, including the use of forms and computer data entry using EHR (Electronic Health Record).
  • Comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.
  • Follow OSHA and TPC guidelines and policies for the prevention of the spread of bloodborne pathogens.
  • Maintain safety standards, including the use of patient safety equipment, knowledge of emergency procedures, and use of handrails on stairs.
  • Participate in Code/Triage team activities, including bringing emergency equipment to the scene of a code or triage call and maintaining current CPR certification.
  • Attend nursing meetings and in-services.
  • Participate on committees to represent the nursing staff.
  • Counsel and educate patients regarding various issues, including wound care, diabetic teaching, symptom monitoring, and other health-related issues.
  • Provide leadership for Medical Assistants and non-licensed personnel as appropriate.
  • Participate as an active care team member in a patient-centered medical home.
  • Assist/float to other departments as needed.
  • Work respectfully and collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Maintain regular work attendance and punctuality.
Requirements:
  • LPN graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Valid Oregon Nursing License
  • CPR certification
  • Previous clinic and/or hospital experience
  • Current ICD and CPT coding
  • Basic understanding of infection control
  • Legalities of charting and telephone conversations
  • Values team success

  • Contributes to an environment where people feel valued
  • Strong patient assessment ability

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations and to work under pressure
Equipment Used:

Special medical equipment depending on department needs, such as ear irrigation tools, AED, surgical instruments, etc. Training will be provided if needed.

Education/Licensure Requirements:

LPN graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

Experience/Qualifications/ Skills Preferred:

Previous clinic and/or hospital experience, current ICD and CPT coding, basic understanding of infection control, legalities of charting and telephone conversations, values team success, compassionate, patient, and tactful, shows an interest in taking action to increase his/her knowledge and development as an employee, contributes to an environment where people feel valued, strong patient assessment ability, proficiency in charting and documentation, skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients and staff, keyboarding skills, proficiency in Microsoft Windows, organizational skills and ability to prioritize, oral communication skills and excellent phone etiquette with an ability to convey and receive information via the telephone, competency in language, grammar, and spelling, ability to interact and establish a good rapport with people over the telephone and in person, ability to multi-task without a reduction in the quality of work and service performed, ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations and to work under pressure.
