This role is a faculty-level appointment within the institution. The selected individual will engage in various responsibilities encompassing education, research initiatives, community service, administrative tasks, and clinical duties as applicable. Candidates aspiring for the full professorship must demonstrate a substantial history of achievement in both academic and clinical settings.
Key Responsibilities
• Engage in educational activities, scholarly research, and community service within the Osteopathic School of Medicine, aiming to cultivate proficient and holistic medical practitioners.
• Participate in and/or lead interdisciplinary course development and evaluation of student performance through formative and summative assessments.
• Guide junior faculty in creating educational experiences that align with the institution's mission and objectives.
• Collaborate with institutional leadership to evaluate educational outcomes and leverage data for enhancing instructional methods and curriculum design.
• This is a full-time, non-tenure track position under the guidance of the Department Chair and Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.
• May occasionally require work hours extending beyond the standard workday.
• The allocation of time across Teaching, Research, Community Service, Administration, and Clinical Practice will be negotiated annually, reflecting faculty career aspirations, institutional needs, and accreditation requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
Doctorate (DO, MD, or PhD) in a relevant basic science discipline (such as Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, or Neuroscience) or a closely related field from an accredited institution, with proven teaching experience.
A strong commitment to the mission and vision of Baptist Memorial Healthcare Corporation.
Proficiency in using computer applications, including Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel).
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods, with intermittent walking and bending throughout the day in a university environment with moderate variations in noise and temperature.
Must successfully complete and pass necessary pre-employment drug screening, physical examination, and background verification.
Unrestricted certification/licensure to teach/practice in the State of Tennessee; if DO or MD, must have the capability to obtain an active and unrestricted medical license in the state where clinical activities occur.
Evidence of a national and/or international standing in the relevant field.
A minimum of five (5) years at the academic rank of Associate Professor or an equivalent position.
A robust research portfolio or a record of peer-reviewed publications.
Ability to instruct in gross anatomy, embryology, and histology (including laboratory components) is advantageous.
A proven track record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and/or research activities.
Active participation in professional and community organizations.
