Job Summary

This position involves reviewing physician orders to ensure the correct medications are given to individual patients, ranging in age from birth to 100+ years. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the most appropriate drug and dose is prescribed, dispensed, administered, and properly monitored.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Reviews and verifies all prescriptions for correctness and appropriateness, and dispenses the most suitable medications for individual patients.
  • Leads the pharmacy workflow and provides guidance on the shift, ensuring effective communication among team members.
  • Supervises the preparation of prescriptions for dispensing, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
Certifications and Licensures:
  • PHARM: Pharmacist
  • CSL PHARM: Controlled Substance
Required Education:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree
  • Equivalent Experience: Completion of a 6-year pharmacy degree is preferred.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Provides and documents drug information to healthcare professionals and patients.
  • Assists in maintaining the 340(b) inventory by monitoring dispensing of prescriptions from main or 340(b) inventory.
  • Audits on an ongoing basis as directed by site 340(b) policy.
  • Communicates areas of concern to supervisor.
  • Participates in teaching patients, students, or other healthcare professionals, such as discharge counseling, in-services, and hands-on teaching of students.
  • Assists in formulating new or revised pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief, and death.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitutes if required for the position.
  • Ability to move freely about the facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
  • Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
  • Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Some exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials. Must follow MyMichigan Health's blood-borne pathogen and TB testing as required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance, and ability to stay awake.
  • Overall dexterity is required, including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
