Data Center Operations Specialist

As a Data Center Operations Specialist at Microsoft Corporation, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our data centers. Your primary responsibility will be to provide IT support for secure access workstations, laptops, servers, and conference rooms Audio/Visual equipment.

You will also be responsible for maintaining inventory of spare devices for the sites and ensuring that the latest updates and operating systems are installed on the devices.

Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a CO+I Data Center Operations Specialist, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services, including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform.

Responsibilities
  • Data Center Operations
    • Demonstrate expertise in standard processes and procedures for preparing, installing, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, replacing, and/or decommissioning equipment.
    • Develop an awareness of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation protocols.
    • Provide guidance to other technicians on processes and procedures.
  • Service Delivery
    • Delegate hardware installation, deployment, and/or replacement work to technicians.
    • Prepare, stage, set up, and perform startups and shutdowns according to specific instructions provided via checklists, guides, standard protocols, and emails.
    • Perform quality control and take responsibility for work performed by technicians.
  • Managing Services
    • Exercise judgment and discretion to contribute to issue tracking, follow-up, resolution, and the overall quality of the service.
    • Provide guidance to less experienced technicians around client interaction.
Requirements
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
  • 2+ years experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Ability to work 12 hours shifts, including shift assignments during non-standard business hours that may include evening, weekends, and/or holidays.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.

Ability to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
