Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to join our team at the City of Graham, NC. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient treatment of domestic and commercial waste materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine mechanical maintenance and repairs at treatment plants, including repairs to pumps, motors, aerators, electrical equipment, and other related equipment.
  • Inspect equipment and perform routine general preventive maintenance, including repacking pumps, greasing motors and equipment bearings, painting equipment and buildings, and cleaning equipment and buildings.
  • Operate transport trucks, land application trucks, plant vehicles, hand tools, lawnmowers, and other required equipment.
  • Monitor plant and facilities periodically to ensure that equipment is operating properly and make necessary adjustments.
  • Collect representative samples from stages in the treatment process for laboratory testing and perform minor laboratory testing, including chlorine residual, pH, temperature, hardness, ammonia, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, and alkalinity.
  • Record gauge readings and prepare daily report forms, and maintain grounds and facilities at the wastewater treatment plant and farm, including mowing, weed-eating, garbage disposal, and cleaning the parking lot.
Requirements
  • Valid North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver's License
  • Completion of high school or equivalent
  • Some experience in working with mechanical equipment and/or commercial vehicle driving
  • Obtaining a Wastewater Operator's Grade I certification from NCDEQ within two years of employment
