The coordinator is responsible for processing essential information for patient admission and insurance billing.

Frye Regional Medical Center, nestled in the scenic foothills of North Carolina, is a 355-bed acute care hospital, complemented by an 81-bed Behavioral Health facility and over 70 primary and specialty care providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver outstanding customer service.
  • Assign accurate medical record numbers and alert Health Information Management for any duplicate records.
  • Schedule a variety of appointment types, including complex cases, across all facilities with precision.
  • Handle incoming calls promptly and professionally.
  • Review clinical documentation and submit it to insurance companies for authorization or pre-certification of outpatient diagnostic services.
  • Pre-register patients for scheduled procedures.
  • Collect and enter accurate demographic information during patient registration at designated locations or at the bedside.
  • Collaborate with Medicaid Eligibility Staff to assist uninsured patients.
  • Provide cost estimates to patients and/or physicians as needed.
  • Work closely with physician office staff to ensure pre-certification/authorization numbers are entered into the scheduling or registration system.
  • Adhere to all cash handling policies.
  • Explain benefits to patients and family members as necessary, both in person and over the phone.
  • Obtain copies of insurance and photo identification cards.
  • Accurately assign insurance plans.
  • Scan relevant orders into the correct patient accounts.
  • Facilitate communication between patients, family members, and clinical staff as required.
  • Update demographic information as necessary.
  • Secure signatures on documents needed to finalize the registration process.
  • Assist patients during the checkout and pre-registration process by calculating and collecting payment information and posting payments accordingly.
  • Be cross-trained to register patients in any registration area.
  • Support the training of new employees.
  • Work on Revenue Cycle reports as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A minimum of 3 years of experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or a related field is preferred, with 3 years in Patient Access also preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology is advantageous.
