Laboratory Operations Manager

Brush Industries is seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Operations Manager to oversee the efficient and accurate delivery of products and services to customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising laboratory technical staff, managing department processes, and ensuring compliance with quality and technical standards.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement production schedules, plans, and procedures to ensure efficient and accurate delivery of products and services.
- Supervise laboratory technical staff, including test technicians and test engineers, and provide guidance and support as needed.
- Manage the Test Report process, including collecting and compiling test data, creating formal test reports, and performing final inspections.
- Coordinate with the Vice President of Technology to develop and update testing processes and methods, and ensure that personnel are trained and procedures are followed.
- Manage customer-provided materials, including receipt, storage, and disposal, in accordance with documented procedures.
- Manage the Q-Card Documentation system, including secured EMV library, work procedures, work instructions, test reports, technical documentation, and test forms.
- Manage the ISO 17025 Quality System for Testing and Calibration Laboratories, including managing related documentation, conducting management reviews, and internal audits.
- Troubleshoot laboratory problems, ensure equipment and facilities are properly maintained, and report any process or equipment problems to the Vice President of Technology and President/COO.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Technology and other certification bodies for accreditation to technical standards.
- Develop and implement metrics to measure productivity and performance of the department, and manage the proficiency testing process and training plans for technical staff.
- Perform personnel functions, including selection, on-boarding, and evaluations.
- Manage laboratory physical assets, environmental conditions, infrastructure, test apparatus, supplies, and consumables.
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Studies and/or experience in a technical engineering, physical properties, or electronics test laboratory, or related field.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common business and highly technical documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the organization.
- Ability to effectively write instructions, procedures, and technical reports that conform to prescribed style and format.
- Ability to effectively train personnel.
- Ability to present information to senior management and internal working groups.
- Strong communication skills in both oral and written format.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts, including probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions, to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to use Microsoft 365, Windows 10 or higher, and MS Office 2019 or higher software, including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
- Ability to design, format, and set up spreadsheets of medium to high complexity, including use of various formulas.
- Ability to use PDF editors, such as Adobe and Microsoft Publisher.
