Civil Transportation Engineering Internship

Clark Nexsen is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Civil Transportation Engineering Intern to join our team during Summer 2025. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work on various transportation projects, including conceptual studies, program requirements, design analyses, and construction documents.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform various aspects of discipline design as directed by a senior or lead Engineer.
  • Prepare programming documents, schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents as directed.
  • Prepare marketing and presentation materials as directed.
  • Perform various services associated with the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings as directed.
  • Comply with quality control policies and procedures.
  • Learn and implement department and company standards.
  • Develop analysis and design skills.
  • Participate in team meetings and coordinate efforts with other team members.
  • Work with a team of architects, engineers, interior designers, and landscape architects.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student in an ABET accredited program.
  • Have completed at least the first year of study in one of the following disciplines: Civil Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering, or Civil Engineering Technology.
  • Be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, and information management.
  • Have working familiarity with design and production software.
  • One previous engineering internship or relevant work experience is preferred.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to arrange housing for the period of employment.
  • Ability to prepare effective and concise documents.
  • Possess technical precision and creative design skills.
  • Ability to make presentations to a variety of groups.
  • Display abilities to work well with others in a team environment.

Physical Requirements:

Work is sedentary and often performed in an office setting. The work area is lighted, heated, and ventilated. This position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive movements, bending, and lifting of minimal weight. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Workplace Flexibility:

We have selected two common days in the office to nurture collaboration and innovation and to support learning and growth through engagement with colleagues. We are asking everyone to be present on Mondays and Thursdays, with a required third day that will provide additional flexibility and be set between you and your supervisor (with consideration given to your project team members and clients). Our hope is that this schedule will offer the work-life balance that is desired by all, while providing consistent opportunities for face-to-face collaboration and mentorship.
