Job Summary:

The Public Schools of Brookline is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated District-wide Special Education Support Professional to join our team. As a key member of our special education department, you will work closely with special educators and classroom teachers to provide comprehensive support to students with diverse needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support to students with disabilities in a variety of settings, including classrooms, special education programs, and community-based settings.
  • Assist special educators and classroom teachers with lesson planning, implementation, and data collection.
  • Support students with daily living skills, such as toileting, feeding, and personal care.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of individualized education plans.
  • Collaborate with other support staff, including occupational therapists, speech therapists, and counselors, to ensure a comprehensive support system for students.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of study at an institute of higher education, Associates of Arts (AA) degree or higher degree preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Completion of first aid and CPR training, with Certificate preferred.
  • Certification in non-violent crisis intervention (SafetyCare) preferred.
  • Knowledge of disabilities related to specific program need.
  • Ability to work as a team and maintain composure under potentially stressful conditions.
  • Ability to problem solve while maintaining effective working relationships with students, staff, and community.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum disabilities required.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis preferred.
  • Knowledge to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
  • Willingness to participate and earn certification in SafetyCare preferred.
