Key Responsibilities

  • Installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, including chillers, split systems, walk-in coolers, freezers, and growth chambers.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning and inspecting equipment, to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues with refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, using expert knowledge of technical operations and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure seamless operation of facilities and minimize downtime.
  • Develop and implement effective solutions to improve system performance, efficiency, and safety.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments, best practices, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
  • Successful completion of an applicable trade-specific Trades Helper program, completion of an approved apprenticeship program, or an associate degree or equivalent education/experience.
  • Five years of experience in the trade, including five years of experience in commercial refrigeration and air-conditioning installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Possession of EPA 608 Universal Certification.
  • State of Michigan Contractor's License with endorsements in refrigeration (#4) and Limited Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (#7).
  • Expert knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Expert knowledge of applicable building codes, rules, and regulations (local, state, and federal).
  • Possession of a valid operator's license.
  • Frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • State of Michigan Mechanical Contractor License with endorsements for #4 - refrigeration and #7 - limited refrigeration or #8 - unlimited refrigeration/air conditioning service.
  • More than five years of experience with trouble-shooting, installation, evacuating, and charging of large commercial air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
  • Experience working on large tonnage mechanical and absorption chillers.
  • Experience with the servicing of smaller systems, including window air conditioning units, refrigerators, and ice machines.
  • Experience working with customers and other mechanics involving other building trades.
  • Knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet.
