As a key member of our healthcare team, the Staff Pharmacist will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our pharmacy department. Responsibilities- Pharmacy Operations
- Process patient prescriptions and manage daily pharmacy operations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Interpret, pack, label, and dispense prescriptions, as well as administer and distribute medications.
- Assist patients at prescription drop-off and pick-up areas, and ensure timely and accurate dispensing of completed prescriptions.
- Train and mentor staff members to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
- Reconcile all payments, including cash, checks, and credit cards, and submit them to the finance department in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean and organized pharmacy environment, adhering to all safety and regulatory standards.
- Facilitate collaboration among healthcare professionals to enhance patient care and outcomes.
- Provide education on 340B pharmacy services and represent the pharmacy department in meetings as needed.
- Collaborate with practitioners to provide consults on drug information and patient education, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care.
- Assist practitioners in assessing patient information to ensure accurate medication orders, taking into account the patient's health status.
- Participate in internal in-service meetings and continuing education programs to enhance professional growth and development.
- Provide updates, training, and recommendations to clinicians during practitioner meetings, ensuring that they have the necessary knowledge and skills to provide high-quality care.
- Assist with the purchase of all drugs, supplies, and pharmaceuticals used in the pharmacy, ensuring that we have the necessary resources to provide excellent patient care.
- Maintain relationships with external stakeholders and vendors, ensuring that we have the necessary partnerships to support our pharmacy operations.
- Maintain current knowledge of and participate in inventory processes, including ordering, inventory returns, restocking shelves with proper rotation of items, and managing outdated medications.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements for pharmacy practice and operations, including the 340B program, NC Board of Pharmacy, Drug Enforcement Agency, Medicaid, and other relevant regulations.
- Maintain compliance with pharmacy policies and procedures, as well as knowledge of changes in laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Participate in quality metrics directives and departmental quality improvement projects, ensuring that we are continually improving our services and outcomes.
- Read and respond to emails and other communication platforms within the organization, ensuring that we are informed and up-to-date on all relevant information.
- Comply with Clinical Quality Measures expectations, ensuring that we are meeting the necessary standards for patient care.
- Use resources to verify standards of care, ensuring that we are providing the best possible care to our patients.
- Modify workflows as determined by the department to attain quality improvement objectives, ensuring that we are continually improving our services and outcomes.
- Consistently document activities related to quality improvement projects, ensuring that we have a clear record of our progress and achievements.
- Determine the most effective method for assigning responsibilities and duties to department employees, ensuring that we are utilizing our resources efficiently and effectively.
- Assign duties and responsibilities, and ensure that employees receive the necessary instruction and training to complete their job responsibilities.
- Ensure that employees are aware of and adhere to all company policies and procedures, as well as convey all senior management communications and directives.
- Review departmental work for thoroughness and accuracy, and provide specific instructions to supervisors and employees on completion of tasks and responsibilities.
To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will possess a Doctoral Degree in Pharmacy, current licensure as a Pharmacist in good standing with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy, and current BLS certification. Additionally, the candidate should have knowledge of the 340B program, state, federal, and third-party regulations relating to pharmacy operations.
