Position Overview:
The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago is seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist to assist patients in achieving optimal physical performance while adapting to various disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
The Physical Therapist will:
- Evaluate patients' physical and functional capabilities, including muscular strength, motor functions, reflexes, ambulation skills, and daily living activities.
- Conduct thorough assessments through patient observation, interviews, and review of medical histories, utilizing sensory tests, muscle tests, and range-of-motion examinations.
- Establish therapy objectives and develop comprehensive treatment plans incorporating exercises, modalities, balance activities, and gait training.
- Engage in discussions regarding evaluations, goals, and treatment strategies with patients and their families, providing guidance on exercise programs and equipment usage.
- Contribute to patient discharge planning, including the formulation of in-home programs when necessary.
- Document patient evaluations and progress meticulously, maintaining accurate records for healthcare providers and insurance purposes.
- Determine and procure necessary assistive devices to facilitate patients' physical activities, such as wheelchairs, canes, crutches, and prosthetic devices.
- Participate in educational initiatives by mentoring and supervising students within the department.
- Engage in research projects as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in alignment with the institute's mission.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a comprehensive understanding of anatomy, physiology, and physical therapy modalities, typically acquired through a Doctoral degree from an accredited physical therapy program. Experience with pediatric patients is preferred. Candidates must be licensed to practice in the State of Illinois and hold current CPR certification. A solid understanding of growth and development across various age groups is essential, along with strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift weights ranging from 20 to 50 pounds occasionally, and 10 to 25 pounds frequently for patient transfers and positioning.
Work Environment:
This role is primarily situated in a standard office environment with minimal exposure to dust or extreme temperatures. Some risk of exposure to infectious diseases may occur while working with patients.
