Medical Laboratory Technician

As a Medical Laboratory Technician at Prisma Health, you will play a critical role in aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. You will be responsible for conducting or supporting laboratory testing, ensuring proficiency and accuracy in all aspects of laboratory testing, and following established policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Perform and report test results for waived, moderate, and high complexity clinical laboratory procedures as assigned and outlined in standard operating procedure (SOP) manuals.
- Escalate discrepancies to appropriate individuals and operate computerized laboratory data systems/applications as assigned.
- Review pending work using established protocol and assure proper retention of all specimens.
- Use correct policies and procedures in the collection, labeling, handling, and processing of all specimens and verify identification of the patient, specimen, and results.
- Participate in Quality Control (QC) and Quality Management (QM) for assigned area, evaluate QC results for acceptability, and notify appropriate individuals of unresolved issues.
- Effectively operate laboratory instrumentation, identify real and potential situations or detect equipment malfunctions, and investigate and resolve technical problems.
- Comply with Policies and Procedures of Prisma Health, understand and comply with standards and conditions set forth by various governmental and accrediting agencies in assigned operational area, and perform competency assessments as assigned.
- Employs good organizational talents and prioritizes tasks appropriately, recognizes customer satisfaction issues, and responds/escalates appropriately.
- Communicates effectively in person, by phone, and in writing, maintains open communication with laboratory leaders, pathologists, and fellow team members, and communicates pertinent information including critical values to other members of the healthcare team.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory and non-mandatory continuing education, accesses training needs, and participates in Continuing Education (CE) programs annually.
- Associate's Degree in a laboratory science or medical technology.
- Past eligibility for MLT (ASCP) prior to 2004 or current eligibility for MLT (ASCP)cm or MLT (AMT).
- Basic computer skills, knowledge of laboratory and office equipment, data entry, mathematical skills, and effective data conversion.
