Job Summary

The City of Boynton Beach is seeking a highly skilled and experienced City Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Public Works Department, you will be responsible for directing, coordinating, and managing the comprehensive municipal operations and activities of the Engineering Division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct assigned staff, addressing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, and managing employee performance.
  • Coordinate daily work activities, organize, prioritize, and assign work, monitor status of work in progress, and inspect completed work.
  • Review and oversee the review of development projects, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop, draft, update, and implement division policies, procedures, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Assist in the implementation of the City's Flood Ordinance and coordination with the Community Rating System.
  • Consult with the Director of Planning & Development, City Manager's Office, City Commissioners, and other officials to review division operations and activities, review and resolve problems, and provide recommendations.
  • Develop and implement division budget, monitor and authorize expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget, oversee payroll administration, and coordinate application for grant funding.
  • Develop and implement long and short-term plans, goals, and objectives for the division.
  • Provide professional administration and support services for utilities, development, public works, environmental management, and capital projects.
  • Provide professional and technical guidance to staff in all facets of engineering and construction activities.
  • Provide oversight and serve as a resource to staff members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
  • Six (6) years of previous experience and/or training that includes progressively responsible engineering practice and administration in a municipal environment or private practice.
  • Must possess and maintain a Professional Engineering License.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in public administration, business administration, construction management, or engineering management.
  • Ten (10) years of previous experience and/or training that includes progressively responsible engineering practice and administration in a municipal environment or private practice.
