Job Title: Automotive Mechanic

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Automotive Mechanic to join our team at the City of Cocoa Beach. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of City-owned vehicles and motorized equipment.

Responsibilities:

* Schedules and performs preventive maintenance on departmental vehicles and equipment
* Completes work orders and turns reports into manager upon completion of each repair
* Performs adjustments, repairs, and scheduled maintenance to air conditioning and heating systems
* Performs major and minor repairs on small equipment, including mowers, trimmers, and chainsaws
* Adjusts and makes repairs to gas and diesel engines, carburetors, generators, and related units
* Repairs and adjusts hydraulic and vacuum-operated systems, replaces hydraulic motors, hoses, and fittings, and installs and adjusts power takeoffs
* Performs major and minor mechanical repairs and adjustments on power drive, brakes, steering mechanisms, and electrical, cooling, and related systems on motorized equipment and vehicles
* Performs welding and fabrication/machine work incidental to completion of repair assignments
* Diagnoses and repairs computer/electrical problems in equipment, including electrical shorts, batteries, alternators, and lights, and performs computer diagnosis to determine system operation problems
* Performs emergency vehicle/equipment repair after hours and weekends on an as-needed basis

Additional Job Functions:

* Completes work orders and lists parts to be billed to specific departments
* Performs other related work as required

Qualifications:

* Graduation from high school supplemented by formal training in mechanical or related trades, and 3 to 5 years of experience as an automotive mechanic, including experience in the maintenance of diesel and gasoline-powered engines
* Possession of ASE-related certifications or willingness to obtain
* A minimum Class B CDL license required within six (6) months
* Position requires mechanic to provide his own tools (current collective bargaining agreement allows for tool allowance on service anniversary)
