Job Summary

The Fleet Services department at the University of California, Davis Health is seeking a skilled Heavy Duty Equipment Technician to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing duties related to the support, maintenance, repair, and upkeep of our vehicle fleet.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preventative Maintenance, Service, and Repairs (60%): Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake pad replacements, to ensure the vehicles are in good working condition.
  • System Administration and Standard Operating Procedure Adherence (30%): Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, repairs, and inspections, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Emergency Response (10%): Respond to emergency situations, such as vehicle breakdowns or accidents, and perform repairs or maintenance as needed.
Requirements
  • Class A or B California Driver's License with endorsements and no restriction (or ability to obtain within six months of hiring)
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • At least four years of experience in heavy duty equipment repair and maintenance
  • Skill to inspect, adjust, and service automotive/equipment systems
  • Skill to operate and maintain shop equipment
  • Skill to document time, material, and repairs
  • Ability to identify components and map out electronic schematic diagrams
  • Ability to safely work with up to 600-volt DC currents
  • Skill to operate a tow truck
  • Knowledge of shop safety practices
  • Knowledge of repair manuals
  • Knowledge of trade tools and equipment
  • Ability to identify required repair parts
  • Ability to perform environmental protection requirements from Federal, State, and Local agencies
  • Skills to work effectively and efficiently with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite and fleet management software
  • Ability to work in tight, awkward spaces
  • Skill to weld and braze
  • Must supply basic hand tools
  • Class B driver's license, or willingness to acquire one as a condition of employment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to shift schedule on a rotational basis
Preferred Qualifications
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications
  • Automotive Refrigerant Recovery (609 Certification)
  • Completion of an Automotive Technology Program
  • Five years of experience in heavy duty equipment repair and maintenance
  • Liftgate repairs, HVAC diagnosis, LD/HD hybrid and electric vehicle diagnosis
