Legislative Liaison

Serves as a key liaison between the Office of the Illinois Secretary of State and the Illinois State Legislature, implementing legislative initiatives and strategies to advance the Office's goals. Handles constituent issues raised by legislators and staff, providing exceptional customer service and support.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Communicates with lawmakers and legislative staff to assist with constituent issues, performs liaison work with legislators, staff, lobbyists, and other governmental entities.
- Assists in the drafting of legislation related to programs and services administered by the Office of the Secretary of State, or in the execution of legislative initiatives and strategies.
- Collaborates with other SOS department staff on legislation proposed by SOS and/or submitted by other entities for review and response.
- Researches legislation and legislative issues, reviews bills and amendments filed affecting SOS, tracks bills as they move through the legislative process, and coordinates SOS testimony, where necessary.
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college and two (2) years of legislative experience, handling, drafting, researching, and tracking legislation.
- Requires experience with Microsoft Office and ability to communicate effectively on phone, in person, and in writing.
- Requires thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public and business administration.
- Requires extensive knowledge of functions and organization of State government.
