The Equipment Engineer II role is crucial in providing technical assistance to Tolmar's diverse packaging and manufacturing facilities. This position focuses on equipment-specific installations, enhancements, and modifications for both new and existing machinery that influence the Manufacturing and Equipment Engineering Department.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and understand the design elements of primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging systems.
- Collaborate with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and third-party vendors to assess equipment options for manufacturing operations.
- Draft and review technical documentation, including User Requirements Specifications (URS), Installation/Operational/Performance Qualifications (IQOQPQ), and Change Controls (CC) for manufacturing equipment.
- Create and review technical work instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and preventative maintenance documents.
- Work with colleagues to update manufacturing batch records to mitigate operational impacts from equipment changes.
- Provide training to various departments on equipment usage and maintenance.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and safety for both new and existing equipment.
- Lead investigations and implement Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA) related to equipment issues.
- Support testing activities for equipment line assessments and validation processes.
- Assist in the selection and research of new or used equipment and system integration options.
- Engage in special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of experience in a manufacturing environment working with equipment.
- Familiarity with regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals or medical device manufacturing is preferred.
Core Competencies
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automation components.
- Proficient in PLC logic and equipment integration concepts.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and work independently or as part of a team.
- Knowledge of various manufacturing equipment, including tube and syringe fillers, bottling lines, and vision inspection systems is advantageous.
- Proficiency in drafting and prototyping software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks is preferred.
Working Conditions
- The role involves working in an office, laboratory, and manufacturing environment, with occasional weekend or evening work required.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 35 lbs and may require travel up to 10% of the time.
