SUMMARY

The Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) is responsible for delivering direct peer support services to individuals facing co-occurring mental health and substance use challenges. Utilizing personal recovery experiences, the CRSS will engage in outreach and encouragement, assisting clients in accessing vital resources that facilitate their recovery journey. This role emphasizes modeling wellness, self-advocacy, and hope through the appropriate sharing of personal narratives, demonstrating how individual needs can be met while fostering a belief in recovery.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Certified Recovery Support Specialist will establish and nurture connections with clients, imparting lessons on personal accountability while serving as a mentor and role model.

Key Duties:
  • Provide mentorship through the sharing of personal recovery stories to build meaningful, trusting relationships with clients.
  • Demonstrate effective coping mechanisms and self-help strategies to assist individuals or groups in overcoming personal challenges.
  • Conduct regular meetings with clients to set personal goals, develop recovery plans, and address routine recovery issues from a peer perspective.
  • Empower clients by fostering self-advocacy skills.
  • Identify and connect clients with community resources to support sustained recovery, including housing, healthcare, employment, and social activities.
  • Assist clients in navigating community resources, including transportation, completing forms, and attending recovery support groups.
  • Collaborate with family and friends to enhance individual functioning and recovery.
  • Participate in substance use groups alongside licensed staff as needed.
  • Act as the liaison for the Alumni Group, organizing community events and attending meetings.
  • Engage in weekly clinical staff meetings.
  • Complete required training sessions annually and biannually.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Perform additional routine administrative tasks as directed by management.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with various projects and tasks as assigned by management.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:
  1. Minimum age of 21 years.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent.
  3. At least one year of recovery experience from substance use disorder.
  4. Completion of an approved recovery coach training program.
  5. Current credential from a recognized certification board demonstrating skills in ethics, advocacy, mentoring, and recovery support.
  6. Ongoing supervision by a qualified alcohol and drug counselor.
  7. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  8. Successful completion of a background study.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Innovative, reliable, and detail-oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills for effective collaboration.
  • Fluency in English and an additional language is advantageous.
  • Experience in medical records management.
  • Ability to establish supportive relationships with individuals facing severe mental health challenges.
  • Respect for client rights and preferences.
  • Capacity to engage with diverse populations empathetically.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and privacy standards.
  • Proficient in using technology for documentation and communication.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent must be able to:
  • Communicate effectively with individuals both in person and via telephone.
  • Remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Operate office equipment including computers and calculators.
  • Move throughout the office as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Responsibilities are primarily conducted in an office setting.
