Civil Engineer Trainee Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Civil Engineer Trainee to join our team at Stantec. As a Civil Engineer Trainee, you will work closely with our experienced engineers to develop your skills and knowledge in civil engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support project teams in developing design documentation, plans, and reports for relevant project design elements.
  • Prepare and revise documentation required for land development permitting through local, state, and federal jurisdictions.
  • Perform quality reviews for documents in various project phases, including construction plans, reviewing agency submittal packages, and engineering calculation reports.
  • Assist in preparing engineering calculation reports, including stormwater design, potable water design, sanitary sewer design, and irrigation design.
  • Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
  • Coordinate and keep consistent communication with other disciplines to ensure the entire design team has the same design intent and is on schedule.
  • Prepare and coordinate submittals to permitting entities.
  • Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, respond to requests for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other construction administration tasks.
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of civil systems and materials.
  • Participate in value engineering and basic cost estimating.
  • Perform calculations to analyze and design civil system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.

Qualifications:

  • Self-starter with a diligent work ethic and strong attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to participate and collaborate in project team settings.
  • Ability to visualize three-dimensional concepts and layouts from diagrams or drawings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn relevant software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, StormCAD, WaterCAD, etc.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
  • No prior experience required.

Work Environment:

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.
