Job Overview:
The Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in fostering an inclusive learning environment for students with diverse needs. This position requires a Professional Educator's License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Key Qualifications:
- ELS para Knowledge of: Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic skills; general office procedures, practices, and use of equipment; recreational activities involving sports, games, arts and crafts, music; understanding of students with exceptional needs; awareness of individual differences among students.
Mission Statement:
The mission of the Suburban Cook County Online Application Consortium is to ensure that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential through a comprehensive and challenging curriculum in a safe and supportive environment.
Reporting Structure:
Directly supervised by the Building Principal, with assignments from designated personnel as necessary.
Essential Responsibilities:
To successfully fulfill this role, the individual must be able to perform each essential function effectively:
- Support the strategic plan of the school district.
- Adhere to established Board of Education policies, regulations, and administrative procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance and assessment data.
- Assist teachers with instructional activities and prepare materials for classroom use.
- Organize and lead recreational activities both in the classroom and on the playground.
- Supervise students in various settings including hallways, restrooms, and cafeteria.
- Modify classwork as needed and record grades.
- Set up equipment and assist in preparing materials for instruction.
- Attend to students' physical needs as directed by the teacher.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, parents, and the community.
- Participate in professional development and meetings as assigned.
Working Conditions:
The role requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods and regular attendance at the job.
Compensation:
Salary details are outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Performance evaluations will be conducted by the Building Principal or designee in accordance with Board of Education policies on professional personnel evaluation.
