Position Overview: Our Hunt Valley, MD office is seeking a Bridge Inspection Engineer who will play a crucial role in supporting a Professional Engineer in conducting National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) assessments of active transportation structures, including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and traffic device support structures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in coordinating with contractors
  • Support the scheduling of access equipment
  • Help prepare condition assessment reports
  • Contribute to the development of repair recommendations and cost estimates
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for bidding and construction
  • Collaborate with internal team members to ensure timely project completion while maintaining established quality standards

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills:

  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
  • Capability to manage multiple project assignments in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with a focus on structural engineering
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or the ability to obtain it within one year
  • 0-4 years of experience in conducting in-service bridge safety and structural inspections
  • Possession of a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of an FHWA-approved comprehensive bridge inspection safety course that meets National Bridge Inspection Standards (23 CFR 650, Subpart C)
  • Experience with MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam Revu

Preferred Certifications:

  • OSHA Fall Protection Training
  • OSHA Confined Space Training
  • Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) training
  • CSX/Norfolk Southern RR Contractor Safety Badge
  • MTA RWP Training

Work Environment:

This position involves a mix of office work (50%) and fieldwork (50%). Fieldwork will take place outdoors in various weather conditions and on uneven terrain. Candidates must be able to perform inspections while bending, kneeling, or standing, and be capable of lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds as necessary. The role requires the operation of access equipment and conducting inspections at heights that necessitate fall protection, as well as in confined spaces that require specialized equipment. Occasional short-duration travel may be required for fieldwork.
