Job Description
The City of Detroit is seeking a skilled Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic to join our team. This role involves repairing and maintaining heavy-duty diesel engines, transmissions, and other complex systems.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced mechanic who can diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues, work independently with minimal supervision, and collaborate with other technicians to complete tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on heavy-duty diesel engines, including oil changes and filter replacements
- Diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues, such as engine problems and transmission failures
- Inspect and test vehicles to ensure they are safe and roadworthy
- Collaborate with other technicians to complete repairs and maintenance tasks
- Document all work performed and maintain accurate records
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in diesel repair preferred
- 2+ years of experience in repairing and maintaining heavy-duty diesel engines
- Valid State of Michigan Operator License required
- Ability to pass a background check and obtain a security clearance
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
