Overview of the Role

As a Retail Power Portfolio Management Consultant, you will be responsible for ensuring the achievement of anticipated gross margins from retail energy contract sales, particularly within deregulated power markets. This position encompasses the management of all Profit and Loss (P&L) aspects related to the retail power portfolio, including thorough analyses of delivery month actuals, adjustments in Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and budget forecasting. The Consultant will assess risks, propose hedging strategies, and take decisive actions to mitigate price and volume risk exposures associated with the retail energy sector. Working closely with the Portfolio Management Team, you will contribute to the development of forward price curves for all Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) elements of full-requirements products, continuously refining costing assumptions to maintain competitiveness in the retail market while sharing accountability for achieving sales targets. Furthermore, you will collaborate with various internal departments, including Sales, Business Development, Origination, Trading, Operations, Risk Management, Marketing, and Digital teams, to support the strategic objectives of the organization.
  • Trading Instruments: Engage in trading Energy, Capacity, Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), Ancillaries, Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs), PPAs, Power Options, and Weather derivatives.
  • Forecasting and Bids: Validate load forecasts and oversee day-ahead demand bids.
  • Reporting: Generate and reconcile daily Net Operating Profit (NOP) and Mark-to-Market (MTM) reports; assess portfolio profitability.
  • Price Management: Develop and adjust forward price curves; oversee price and volume risk management.
Qualifications and Skills
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience in the retail energy sector.
  • Proven expertise in retail power portfolio management, particularly within deregulated markets.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and statistical capabilities, with the ability to communicate complex technical analyses to senior management effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of energy market fundamentals, including customer usage characteristics and pricing strategies.
  • Proficiency in options and hedging techniques to manage retail power shape and swing risk, along with advanced skills in MS Excel.
  • Experience in data extraction, transformation, and management utilizing tools such as VBA, SQL, and Microsoft Power BI, coupled with strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills, and meticulous attention to detail.

Compensation Overview

Salary Range: $112,000 - $157,500 USD annually.

This range reflects the average expected compensation for a qualified candidate. Actual salary may vary based on factors such as geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, and internal pay alignment.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for a competitive bonus/incentive plan.
