About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our team at Lake Huron Medical Center, a 144-bed community hospital that provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient health care services to residents of St. Clair and Sanilac counties.

Responsibilities
  • Perform waived, moderate, and highly complex tests authorized by CLIA, Bus. & Prof. Code Section 1204.
  • Adhere to laboratory procedures for specimen collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
  • Follow established quality control policies and procedures in documenting all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and correct the issue or notify a supervisor.
  • Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and other disciplines.
  • Perform and document maintenance daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed on instruments and equipment.
  • Review the accuracy of patient results prior to releasing or reporting.
  • Recognize age-specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics.
  • Ensure that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
Requirements
  • Meet the requirements of Standard; Testing personnel qualifications.
  • Possess a current license issued by the State in which the laboratory is located, if such licensing is required.
  • Have a bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stated in CLIA.
  • Have one year of hospital laboratory work experience, preferred but not required.
