Position Overview

We are seeking a Deputy Director of Financial Crime Compliance with a focus on Sanctions to become a vital part of our organization. The ideal candidate will be tasked with delivering strategic guidance to key stakeholders regarding the interpretation and execution of regulatory requirements, legal standards, best practices, and internal Sanctions Policies and Procedures. This role will also involve assessing the implications of regulatory issues on various business sectors, making informed decisions on transactions, and managing associated risks. The Deputy Director will report directly to the Regional Head of Financial Crime Compliance, Sanctions for Europe and the Americas, playing an essential role in ensuring adherence to regulations and fostering effective governance.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Advise on the interpretation and execution of regulatory standards, legal requirements, best practices, and internal Sanctions Policies and Procedures.
  • Evaluate the effects of regulatory issues related to anti-financial crime on pertinent business sectors and operations.
  • Facilitate the implementation of significant changes to laws, regulations, and rules in collaboration with internal communications.
  • Assist stakeholders in making informed decisions based on both internal and external requirements, practices, and trends.
  • Make determinations regarding the approval or rejection of transactions and report findings to relevant authorities.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to explain the rationale behind decisions related to transaction and name screening cases.
  • Identify and analyze escalated issues requiring the application of relevant sanctions regulations.
  • Assess and make decisions on payment escalations and name screening alerts.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance controls based on identified sanctions risks.
  • Create and deliver training materials and guidance on sanctions-related regulations and rules.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or relevant professional experience exceeding 7 years.
  • An advanced degree is considered an asset.
  • ACAMS Certification is preferred.
  • Proven ability to identify opportunities and resolve challenges.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and resilience.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication abilities.
  • Capacity to deliver results sustainably.
Preferred Experience
  • Background in a similar position within financial services, banking, or a regulatory setting.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory landscape and requirements pertinent to this role.
  • Experience managing special requests and transactions subject to regulatory approval.
