The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is a highly trained nursing professional responsible for administering anesthesia to patients undergoing surgical or special procedures. Key duties include:
- Managing anesthesia for a diverse array of intricate surgical operations.
- Adapting and modifying anesthesia techniques to enhance patient care.
- Responding to emergencies by providing airway management and administering emergency medications, employing basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques as necessary.
- Integrating technology, skills, and knowledge to advance anesthesia practices, pharmacology, and equipment.
- Applying new developments and theories to effectively address complex anesthesia scenarios.
- Collaborating with colleagues in a team-oriented approach to anesthesia care while merging management skills with technical expertise.
- Demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of anesthesia methods and techniques.
- Serving as a mentor or educator, offering clinical instruction to graduate-level nurse anesthesia students and other anesthesia care providers.
- Engaging in the development of anesthesia patient care audit processes through detailed review and analysis of anesthesia records.
- Providing guidance in preparing others for leadership roles and ethical practices impacting patient care.
Work Schedule:
7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with 24-hour on-call duties 2-3 times monthly (subject to change based on patient care needs).

Requirements:
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. Open to U.S. Citizens; non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited. All applicants selected for VA employment in designated testing positions are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory. Candidates may be required to serve a probationary period and are subject to background/security investigations. A pre-employment physical examination is required.
Qualifications:
Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled.
Basic Requirements:
- Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
- English Language Proficiency: Proficiency in basic written and spoken English is required.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program and an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program.
- Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a professional nurse.
- Certification: Certification by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists is required for employment.
