Position Overview: The Tax team at Vitol is composed of exceptional professionals who consistently extend their impact beyond the traditional boundaries of tax roles.
In this position, you will oversee the federal, state, and international tax compliance for North American entities while providing expert tax advice to management, commercial teams, investment groups, and other relevant departments.
The Direct Tax team plays a crucial role within Vitol, managing all tax-related aspects of our trading operations, renewable assets, and service companies.
This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with Vitol's core trading activities, upstream ventures, and renewable projects (including wind, solar, and renewable natural gas), as well as involvement in deal-making and investment transactions.
As a team known for delivering insightful tax analyses, we are frequently consulted by Senior Management for information that informs regional and global strategic decisions.
Vitol's Tax organization combines a dynamic work environment with a strong focus on growth, learning, and career advancement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviewing and preparing federal, state, and local income/franchise tax returns, along with estimated and extension tax payments.
- Conducting and reviewing federal and state components of quarterly income tax accruals, performing reconciliations, and maintaining deferred tax items.
- Collecting, organizing, and accurately utilizing data from accounting and trading systems.
- Responding to audits and jurisdictional tax notices.
- Identifying tax-saving opportunities and engaging in tax planning activities.
- Supporting investment and deal teams during business acquisitions and sales processes.
- Performing additional duties as assigned, with the understanding that this job description may evolve.
Qualifications: Candidates should possess:
- At least one year of experience in federal/state tax consulting or compliance in a business or industry setting.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel.
- Preferred experience in partnership tax and state tax.
- A CPA license is desirable.
