Position Overview
As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Registered Dietitian is accountable for the nutritional management of patients. This role involves the planning, assessment, implementation, and evaluation of individualized nutritional care plans.
Key Responsibilities
- May provide mentorship and training to fellow team members.
- Execute a variety of clinical tasks with precision and responsiveness, addressing problems of minimal complexity.
- Conduct interviews with patients and/or their families to gather nutritional histories, preferences, and document findings in medical records.
- Perform comprehensive nutritional assessments, develop tailored care plans, and collaborate with medical staff to recommend nutrition strategies.
- Advise on therapeutic diet adjustments and supplemental feeding options, ensuring diet orders align with physician directives.
- Deliver nutritional education and counseling to patients and their families, in accordance with prescribed dietary guidelines.
- Facilitate modifications to patient menus based on preferences and assist in the creation of standardized recipes while overseeing food service personnel for proper food handling and portion control.
- Support clinical operations by assisting team members and management in daily tasks.
- Prepare and conduct educational sessions for individuals and groups, and connect clients with community resources as necessary.
- Engage in effective communication regarding nutrition information within the program and broader community.
- Provide in-service training to culinary and interdisciplinary teams on therapeutic diets and related subjects.
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement initiatives, including data collection and execution of related tasks.
- Address operational challenges and technical issues, escalating to senior team members when necessary; adapt existing tools or processes as needed.
- Perform additional duties as required, with all responsibilities considered essential functions of the role under applicable regulations.
Qualifications
A Master's Degree or a comparable combination of education and relevant experience is required. Current Registered Dietitian Certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration is mandatory. Certification as a Dietitian Nutritionist in New York State (CDN) may be necessary. Advanced or specialized certifications are advantageous. A minimum of 1-3 years of pertinent experience is required.

Factors influencing salary may include location, specialty, service line, years of experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget considerations, and internal equity.
