Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Cost Manager to join our team at Soben, a leading construction consultancy in North America. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for creating and managing budgets, reviewing plans, preparing take-offs and estimates, negotiating with contractors and vendors, and building relationships with clients and site managers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Cost Estimation and Planning: Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates and cost plans for review, including benchmarking and value engineering options.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and assist in preparing and maintaining the risk register to ensure the project's success.
  • Procurement Strategy: Contribute to the development of the procurement strategy and report, ensuring that the project's objectives are met.
  • Client Communication: Attend client meetings and record relevant discussion points and actions to ensure effective communication and project progress.
  • Design Team Collaboration: Attend design team meetings, capture and advise on potential cost implications, and implement meeting outcomes to ensure project efficiency.
  • Lease Negotiations: Assist in lease negotiations and validation of the tenant improvement allowance to ensure project feasibility.
  • Project Templates: Contribute to the development of project templates to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Cost Reporting: Assist with changing order logs, invoice logs, cost reports, and other financial documents to ensure accurate project tracking.
  • Development Appraisals: Assist with measurements and research pricing for development appraisals to ensure project feasibility.
  • Pre-Qualification Questionnaire: Draft and finalize the pre-qualification questionnaire for review to ensure project compliance.
  • PQQ Responses: Review and tabulate PQQ responses to ensure project suitability.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Experience: Minimum 4 years of cost management experience in the construction industry.
  • Professional Certifications: MRICS or on the path to chartership preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in the use of advanced functions in CostX to produce estimates, bills, etc., and Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of relevant construction technologies and trends, team player with excellent communication skills, organized, and detail-oriented.
