Job Title: American Sign Language Interpreter

We are seeking a skilled American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter to join our team at Soliant. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ASL and experience working in educational settings.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide ASL interpretation services for students, teachers, and staff in educational settings.
  • Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa, ensuring accurate communication and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to ensure accessibility and inclusion for students with diverse needs.
  • Support students in understanding and participating in classroom activities, providing clarification and additional explanations as needed.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and other individualized plans for students.
  • Provide assistance during assessments and testing situations, including interpreting exam questions and instructions.
  • Stay updated on current trends and practices related to ASL interpretation and deaf culture.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records related to interpreting services.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in American Sign Language or a related field.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • 3.5+ EIPA or NIC certification.
  • Experience working as an ASL interpreter in an educational setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of educational terminology and instructional practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet individual communication needs.
  • Sensitivity and respect for the unique needs and experiences of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in using technology and interpreting software.
