Job Summary

Ochsner Health is seeking a highly skilled Sterile Processing Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for ensuring the availability of cleaned, prepared, and sterilized equipment and supplies for surgical procedures.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of clinical knowledge, proficiency in using computers and software, and excellent communication skills. They will be responsible for receiving, cleaning, distributing, and storing medical instruments and equipment, as well as supporting direct patient care in clinical and satellite operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs general and specialized instrument care duties
  • Provides supplies as needed for surgical procedures
  • Disassembles and cleans critical reusable medical equipment
  • Inspects, packages, and reassembles surgical instruments and trays
  • Practices High Level Disinfection, Pre-Vaccuum Sterilization, Gravity Displacement Sterilization, and Hydrogen Peroxide Plasma Sterilization techniques
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of sterile processing experience or graduation from an accepted course in sterile processing or surgical technology
  • Certification through one of the following: CRCST, IAHCSMM, CSPDT, or CFER
Working Conditions

This role requires working in a patient care area, with exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue. The incumbent will work in an area where patients enter, work directly with patients, and/or work with specimens that could contain diseases.
