About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Portland, Oregon. As a key member of our organization, you will play a crucial role in optimizing and automating our manufacturing processes.

The ideal candidate will have a strong ability to apply engineering theory, data analysis, and problem-solving techniques to drive business growth and improve operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with operations personnel and quality assurance teams to gain a deep understanding of operational processes and product quality measurements.
  • Maintain and improve in-house software process models and third-party software models to ensure optimal performance.
  • Develop strategies to reduce defects, delays, and missed opportunities by gathering and analyzing data to produce proof-of-concept models for process improvement.
  • Understand equipment limitations and collaborate with engineering teams to continually improve equipment performance.
  • Develop vendor relationships to understand equipment and software process models provided.
  • Create training tools to help team members across the organization gain a better understanding of the process.
  • Maintain Level II supervisory systems hardware and software components, performing upgrades and applying patches as needed.
  • Ensure 24/7/365 mission-critical services in manufacturing operations provided by Level II supervisory systems.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Materials Science Engineering with an emphasis on process modeling, control theory, and statistical analysis.
  • 10 years of experience in the steel industry (Rolling Mills) or manufacturing, preferably with adaptive software process models experience.
  • Strong mathematical background with experience in implementing various numerical methods.
  • Software development and support experience with DEC Fortran, DEC C programming languages on OpenVMS operating systems, as well as .NET programming languages on Windows OS.
  • Database knowledge with Microsoft SQL Server/T-SQL programming skills.
  • Familiarity with virtual environments like VMware and industrial networking topology.
  • Able to read through complicated algorithms and source code to identify problems or areas for improvement and propose solutions.
  • Knowledge of group problem-solving techniques such as brainstorming, value stream mapping, and Kaizen events.
  • Willingness to work variable shifts and/or off-hours remote and telephone support.
Salary and Benefits
