Position Overview

The Twinsburg Public Library is on the lookout for a dedicated full-time Children's Library Services Associate to enhance our dynamic and innovative team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in delivering exceptional service to our community members.

Your primary responsibilities will include engaging with patrons at the children's desk, addressing reference inquiries, assisting with reader's advisory, enrolling patrons in various events and programs, and facilitating the checkout process for library materials.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing and implementing activities for children aged 0-11, including regular storytime sessions both in-house and at local childcare facilities.
  • Showcasing the Library's collection through creative displays and effective collection management.
  • Participating in community outreach efforts, either independently or in collaboration with the Bookmobile Librarian.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Conducts the checkout of materials for the public in the Children's Services area, utilizing the SirsiDynix Workflows system (training will be provided). Maintains the confidentiality of patron records and knows when to refer inquiries to Circulation.

Offers reference assistance to children, caregivers, and educators; provides reader's advisory services.

Registers patrons for activities and events, providing guidance to library services and directing patrons as needed.


Facilitates storytime sessions for children aged 0-5, incorporating essential literacy skills and methods both in-house and at community centers, schools, and groups.

Plans and executes programming for school-aged children in pre-K through third grade.

Exhibits outstanding customer service skills and effectively addresses patron concerns.

Promotes library usage, particularly focusing on programs and services offered by the Children's Services department.

Engages in community outreach efforts, either independently or in support of the Bookmobile Librarian.

Assists with the selection and weeding of materials; may have input on a portion of the collection.

Creates and maintains engaging displays.

Treats patrons and team members with courtesy and a collaborative spirit.

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Children's Services Manager, Assistant Manager, or Administration that do not require significantly different qualifications.


Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Reading and Literacy, or Childhood Development is preferred.

A minimum of two years of experience in public libraries or educational settings.

Work Environment:

A fast-paced setting that may involve managing challenging customer service situations.


The role is primarily conducted indoors in a standard customer service environment and includes frequent close-up work, such as using a computer monitor.

Employees may be scheduled for evening and weekend shifts, including Sundays; schedules may be adjusted based on library needs.

Physical Requirements: Ability to regularly lift up to 25 pounds; ability to reach overhead and bend to floor level; capability to operate standard office equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Experience and comfort working with all age groups, particularly children aged 0-11.

Experience and comfort engaging with parents and caregivers of children.

Exceptional customer service skills.

Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and creativity.

Proficiency in using computers and technology, especially Office 365, SharePoint, and common office equipment.

Familiarity with the library's e-book platforms, databases, and consortia, with the ability to teach and demonstrate their use.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Knowledge of library practices regarding confidentiality, privacy, and equitable access.
