Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for our inpatient Neurosurgery service. The APP will play a crucial role in managing various responsibilities within the service, including conducting daily rounds, documenting progress notes, performing ER and inpatient consultations, overseeing admissions and discharges, and ordering as well as interpreting laboratory and radiologic tests. Additionally, the APP will engage in multidisciplinary care coordination and provide patient education.

Within the scope of practice and Inova Health System's credentialing, the APP may also perform specific procedures such as EVD and ICP monitor placements. Opportunities for first-assisting in the operating room may be available based on service needs. The APP will collaborate closely with our neurosurgeons to ensure optimal patient care.

Work Schedule
The position requires full-time commitment, comprising three 12-hour shifts per week, which may include weekends, holidays, and occasional night shifts. Candidates with prior experience in neurosurgery are preferred.

Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program
  • Board certification (ACNP or NCCPA certification)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Valid Virginia License
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration

Compensation and Benefits

Minimum Requirements:
  • Certification: Basic Life Support prior to start; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (for Critical Care) upon start; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (for Pediatrics) upon start
  • Licensure: Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner; If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License (depending on State of primary residence) AND a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a signed "Practice Agreement" by sponsoring/supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND a "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances).
  • Experience: No prior experience required; New graduates are welcome to apply.
  • Education: For Nurse Practitioners: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Master's Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduation from a post-masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, OR certificate from an accredited education program; For Physician Assistants: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
