This is a contract job opportunity with MedTeam Staffing.
Job Summary:The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training, and making workflow efficient.
Responsibilities:- Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
- Properly explains the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection to patients.
- Demonstrates technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Fully understands physicians' orders and matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Checks test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
- Packages specimens for transport and stores them according to required temperature.
- Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed.
- Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
This position is a float position, requiring a clean driving record and the ability to travel within the Howard County/DC metro area.
