SIGN-ON BONUS: Up to $10,000 with a two-year commitment for external candidates
HOURS: Full-time, 1.0 FTE, day shifts may vary based on departmental requirements, typically between 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM or 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM.
ROLE SUMMARY:
The Invasive Cardiovascular Technologist plays a crucial role in assisting physicians during various invasive cardiology, vascular, and specialized procedures. This position involves delivering comprehensive patient care to individuals undergoing these procedures, including the acquisition and radiographic management necessary for diagnosing and treating anatomical and physiological disorders. The technologist is responsible for performing data reduction for electrophysiology studies and assisting in the implantation of stents, central lines, ICDs, and pacemakers. Additionally, this role includes providing training and support to new staff and students. Patient care encompasses a wide age range, from adolescents to geriatric patients.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Qualified candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform the following essential functions:
- Assist physicians in accordance with operating room standards during procedures, ensuring the maintenance of a sterile environment, proper setup, and handling of equipment, including the administration of contrast media. Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all procedures and care provided, ensuring effective communication with other healthcare professionals.
- Provide care for both critical and non-critical patients during invasive procedures, offering post-procedure support as necessary. Conduct patient assessments focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive aspects, and utilize critical thinking to troubleshoot and resolve patient-related issues.
- Administer medications as per the Cath Lab formulary and maintain knowledge of all relevant drugs.
- Participate in the on-call system for emergency and urgent studies, ensuring a prompt response.
- Handle and process imaging accurately while adhering to safety protocols.
- Demonstrate expertise in radiation safety, electrical safety, and universal precautions, applying these principles consistently.
- Engage in the clinical education of students and staff on all relevant procedures.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The following tasks are considered secondary to the primary responsibilities:
- Provide support and communication to patient families.
- Ensure accurate scheduling and documentation.
- Offer clinical support across departments, including management of IABPs, Impella devices, and other critical care equipment.
- Conduct preventative safety inspections and maintain equipment, ensuring quality control.
- Participate in clinical investigations and maintain inventory management.
- Fulfill on-call responsibilities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM REQUIRED:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or completion of an accredited Invasive Cardiovascular Technology program (RCIS certification required within two years of hire); OR Vascular-Interventional Radiography (VI) Certified or completion of a formal radiation technologist program (VI certification required within two years of hire); OR Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) Certified or completion of a certified Electrophysiology technology program (RCES certification required within two years of hire).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- One year of experience in the healthcare sector.
- Two years of experience as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist, Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist, or X-Ray Technologist.
