About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Advanced Materials and Concepts Prototyper to join our team at Lockheed Martin. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting design and process engineers in the fabrication, repair, modification, and inspection/testing of composite, metal, and advanced materials structures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fabricate prototype and conceptual components and assemble with minimal supervision.
  • Receive instructions through oral communications, rough sketches, process documents, or memos, and determine equipment, material, and fixture needs.
  • Set up, operate, adjust, and calibrate process and assembly equipment as required.
  • Perform experiments under engineers' direction, using hand and machine tools as necessary.
  • Make appropriate calculations relating to assignments, record data, and maintain records using computerized equipment where necessary.
  • Modify fixtures and lab equipment as directed, and evaluate or make suggestions for improvements in materials, processes, fixtures, and techniques.
  • Write process instructions and summary reports on experimental work when requested.
  • Correct discrepancies using information from engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, or other documents as required.
  • Prepare and use manufacturing planning, written instructions, schematics, drawings, and other applicable technical data to repair, fabricate, and modify composite structures.
  • May direct the activities of other laboratory personnel in the performance of their duties.
  • May train or instruct other technical personnel in operations that fall within their area of expertise and experience.
Requirements
  • Experience with machining composites.
  • Knowledge/experience with basic hand tools and their uses, and ability to operate larger machinery.
  • Experience with hand fabrication of composites.
  • Experience with reading engineering drawings.
  • Able to work with epoxies or other chemical solvents or chemicals used in hybrid processes, and able to wear a respirator for extended periods of time (will be trained and certified as needed).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, requires US citizenship.
Desired Skills
  • Self-starter, able to work with minimal direction.
  • Familiarity with materials and advanced additive and subtractive manufacturing methods.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and/or overtime as needed to achieve mission goals.
  • Comfortable with multi-tasking and running parallel tasks to support multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong organizational skills.
