The Invasive Radiology Specialist is a dedicated healthcare professional responsible for patient care during specific procedures, particularly within the Invasive Lab. This role focuses on individuals undergoing invasive cardiology or radiology studies, ensuring high-quality service and support to both patients and the medical team.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Associate's Degree in Radiologic Technology.
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE
IEMA Radiography License in Illinois upon hire.
Radiography (R)(ARRT) certification upon hire.
BLS certification within 30 days.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Preferred: 1 year of experience as a general radiographer.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Ability to learn and retain critical information regarding patient care and procedures. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to patient interactions. Manual dexterity for handling small medical supplies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administers contrast agents as per physician's instructions, utilizing existing IV lines or performing venipuncture when necessary, while monitoring for allergic reactions.
- Prepares for invasive procedures by anticipating necessary equipment and supplies.
- Assists in managing inventory and supplies within the lab.
- Ensures accurate patient identification and verifies medical records, diagnoses, and treatment positions.
- Collects and compiles relevant clinical information related to lab and pathology.
- Administers medications in accordance with professional practice standards.
- Maintains thorough and accurate documentation of procedures and patient interactions.
- Communicates procedure details to patients, ensuring their comfort, safety, and confidentiality.
- Performs all essential duties of the Invasive Radiology Specialist.
- Participates in on-call duties and flexible shift work as required by departmental needs.
- May be required to assist in various procedural areas as needed.
- Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
- Demonstrates proficiency in operating imaging and physiological monitoring equipment, including basic troubleshooting.
- Ensures the maintenance of a sterile field during procedures.
- Administers and manages contrast and treatment as appropriate, assessing patients for allergies.
- Functions as a scrub and monitor technician during procedures, assisting the physician in interventional tasks.
