Job Summary

UTHealth Houston is seeking a highly skilled Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) to join our dynamic Neurology team at the Woodlands Epilepsy Clinic. As an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to patients with neurological conditions, with a focus on epilepsy management in both hospital and outpatient settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide advanced nursing care to patients with complex acute, critical, and/or chronic health conditions in a clinic or hospital setting.
  • Conduct independent and physician-supervised rounding on unit.
  • Perform relevant patient evaluations and assessments, and provide appropriate treatment, including monitoring and ordering medications.
  • Coordinate, direct, and implement the patient's plan of care.
  • Assist in collecting patient histories, screens for co-morbidities, and provides guidance and preventative health care as needed.
  • Perform physical examinations and provides episodic care, or problem-oriented care, under the supervision of a physician.
  • Order appropriate laboratory, diagnostic and radiographic tests, and interprets results.
  • Monitor the treatment program of the patient to inform the attending physician of pertinent medical information.
  • Facilitate patient education relating to medical processes, medication, nutrition, and health promotion or preventative health care.
  • Assist physicians in formulating therapeutic decisions.
  • Maintain appropriate records, and prepares charts for review and counter signature by physician.
  • Prepare and cares for supplies and equipment.
  • Respond to emergency situations.
  • Perform within the scope of practice prescribed by licensure and certification.
Requirements
  • Current Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current Texas Licensure as an APRN-NP.
  • Current specialty certification as required by department, excluding FNP certification unless paired with a post-master's certification in specialty.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or specialty certification as required by department.
Education and Experience
  • Masters in Nursing as NP or Masters in Nursing with completion of a post-master's Nurse Practitioner Certification Program.
  • None; previous experience in area of clinical focus preferred.
