Job Summary

The University of New Hampshire seeks a qualified individual to fill the position of Lecturer in Equine Studies. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position that will be responsible for teaching courses in the Equine option of our Animal Sciences program. The successful candidate will have a strong background in equine science and experience in teaching and riding instruction.

Key Responsibilities

The Lecturer in Equine Studies will be responsible for teaching five to six units (typically 20-24 credit hours) per academic year. This will include both classroom and laboratory-based courses in equine handling, longeing, management, and English riding, with an emphasis on jumping and dressage. The candidate will also be responsible for formal academic advising of students, participating in curriculum development, evaluating horses for the riding program, and managing program social media accounts. Additional responsibilities will include leadership in equine-related experiential learning activities, such as managing horse trials, coordinating equestrian team activities, and leading outreach activities.

Requirements

The successful candidate will hold an M.S. in equine science or a relevant discipline and have riding and riding instruction experience in dressage and jumping, preferably combined training. The candidate must demonstrate excellent potential in teaching, possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, and have the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and community groups of diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching at the college level and in designing and offering experiential courses is preferred. Additionally, experience in equine event management, social media marketing, and engagement knowledge are also desirable.
