Job Overview

Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Sports Program Director, this role is responsible for planning, executing, and leading training sessions for assigned club teams. The instructor will also participate in coaching and facilitating all YMCA Club Sports events and competitions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and conduct practice sessions for designated teams on scheduled days.
  • Organize and lead monthly meetings for coaches and parents.
  • Support the program director in promotional activities and enhance social media visibility.
  • Oversee financial aspects related to the program.
  • Coordinate and manage all tournaments for the club.
  • Encourage, guide, and, when necessary, discipline team members in accordance with the YMCA's anti-bullying policy.
  • Enforce club and facility regulations to foster a unified team environment.
  • Identify emergency situations and administer CPR/AED and first aid as required, adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Attend all tournaments and team practices, ensuring active participation.
  • Be present at a minimum of two branch events annually.
  • Provide excellent customer service and uphold the YMCA's professional image.
  • Assist in preparing facilities for club activities, including setting up and taking down equipment, ensuring all gear is maintained, and keeping attendance records.
  • Manage program finances, including registration and payment processing, while adhering to best accounting practices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

The following qualifications are necessary for successful performance in this role. Note that these may vary based on department size and location.

Education & Certifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Completion of basic certification courses from recognized organizations, including CDC Heads Up Concussion Training, USA Volleyball & SCVA Coaching Membership, USA Volleyball Background Check, Safesport Training, and IMPACT Coaching Certification.

Experience & Background:

  • Minimum of 3 years of coaching experience in volleyball.
  • At least 1 year of prior involvement with SCVA and USA Volleyball.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and results-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to engage effectively with individuals at all levels and across diverse backgrounds.
  • Capability to work collaboratively as part of project teams.
  • Proficiency in explaining and demonstrating fundamental exercise physiology principles to participants.
  • Knowledge of aerobic/anaerobic and strength conditioning principles is required.
