Senior Structured Cabling Specialist

Salary: $20 - $30 per hour
The ideal candidate will possess substantial expertise in the installation, termination, and testing of structured cabling systems within commercial settings. This role encompasses the configuration, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, implementation, and planning of Wide Area Network (WAN), Local Area Network (LAN), wireless, wired, and voice telecommunication systems. Familiarity with BICSI standards for proper installation and termination practices is essential. This position also requires the ability to mentor and oversee apprentices in a collaborative environment while facilitating the deployment of cabling and electronic systems. A commitment to safety, quality, productivity, and adherence to schedules is critical for all tasks undertaken. Employees are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence and produce high-quality work consistently. Punctuality and teamwork are vital, along with maintaining a safe working environment. MCA Communications, Inc. will supply safety gear, including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and vests, which must be worn at all times on-site. Employees are responsible for providing their own hand tools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation of video and data cabling using Cat 5E, Cat 6a, and fiber optic cables.
- Termination and testing of horizontal copper cabling (Cat 5e, Cat 6a).
- Termination of fiber optic cables.
- Installation of patch panels and labeling/testing of horizontal cabling.
- Installation of backbone and riser cabling (both copper and fiber).
- Installation of interior conduit, Panduit, and Wiremold.
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand plans and specifications.
- Installation of plywood and racks, as well as cable trays in telecommunications rooms (TC), main distribution frames (MDF), and intermediate distribution frames (IDF).
- Assistance with outside plant (OSP) installations.
- Capable of pulling cable (100 pair or smaller) without assistance.
- Installation of prefab assemblies independently.
- Support in pulling various sizes of cables.
- Installation of pull and junction boxes up to 24" x 24".
- Assistance with exterior underground layouts.
- Support with interior overhead and underfloor raceway layouts for telecommunications.
- Conducting Operational Risk Management Briefings for mastered tasks.
- Contributing to an Activity Hazard Analysis for mastered tasks.
- Troubleshooting and resolving issues with Cat 5, 5E, and Cat 6a cabling.
- Termination of various manufacturers' copper termination blocks.
- Knowledge of all fiber termination connectors.
- Mentoring apprentices.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in the commercial communications sector, including room build-out, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber optic termination, as well as the ability to interpret and maintain drawings and as-builts.
Requirements:
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug test.
- Willingness to work throughout the designated area.
- Reliable transportation is essential.
- Availability for a flexible work schedule as needed.
Physical Abilities:
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and sustain lifting 50 pounds for extended periods.
- Capable of utilizing and relocating a 10-12 foot stepladder independently.
- Comfortable working at heights up to 60 feet; ability to climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and various types of ladders.
- Full capacity to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, turn, twist, crawl, squat, walk, climb, push, pull, and reach overhead routinely.
- Good vision (correctable) with the ability to distinguish colors, shades, and brightness.
- Ability to understand and communicate in English at a minimum conversational level.
- Compliance with all OSHA safety regulations.
