Job Summary:

The Sign Language Interpreter will provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services to employees who are deaf, hard of hearing, and/or have other communication needs. This role requires a high level of training, skills, certification, and experience in interpreting complex assignments, including meetings, conferences, seminars, training, and other platform settings. The successful candidate will be able to adapt terminology, language, instruction, concept, theory, and emotion to convey all aspects of discussions, lectures, teaching material, and experiences to Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing employees.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide ASL interpreting services to employees who are deaf, hard of hearing, and/or have other communication needs.
  • Interpret complex assignments, including meetings, conferences, seminars, training, and other platform settings.
  • Adapt terminology, language, instruction, concept, theory, and emotion to convey all aspects of discussions, lectures, teaching material, and experiences to Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing employees.
  • Preplan and prepare for logistics by knowing concepts and vocabulary, reading materials, presentations, and/or meeting with signers for dialog before an assignment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct (CPC).

Requirements:
  • Possession of Interpreter certificate/certification (CI or CT, NAD {levels 4-5}, CDI, NIC {Certified, Advanced, or Master}, Texas BEI, or EIPA).
  • Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate the skills, values, and commitment to cultural competencies and environmental awareness at the College.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Environment:

The Sign Language Interpreter will work in a fast-paced environment, often interpreting complex assignments and interacting with Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing employees. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to the RID Code of Professional Conduct (CPC).
