Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Lead Medical Physicist, the Medical Physicist will apply specialized knowledge and skills to:

  • Support the technical aspects of planning and treating patients undergoing radiation therapy in the oncology department.
  • Assist in managing the radiation safety program, ensuring safe and effective use of radioisotopes and radiation-generating equipment.

Key Duties:

  1. Participate in the recruitment and selection of physicists, dosimetrists, and therapists.
  2. Evaluate and recommend equipment purchases, oversee service contracts, and coordinate maintenance with Bio-Med and vendors.
  3. Measure machine outputs and calibrate equipment to meet compliance standards and regulations.
  4. Contribute to the radiation safety program for external beam therapy and brachytherapy, ensuring adherence to relevant guidelines.
  5. Manage radioactive materials from receipt through disposal, following established protocols.
  6. Conduct room surveys and instruct hospital staff on radiation safety protocols.
  7. Engage in medical conferences and committee participation as directed.
  8. Assist in the development and evaluation of new devices, protocols, and treatment policies.
  9. Support the implementation of quality assurance programs and adhere to established departmental policies.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Master's degree in Medical Physics or a related field; a Ph.D. in Medical Physics is preferred.
  • Board Certification by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or the American Board of Medical Physics in Radiation Physics, or certification from the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine.
  • Board-eligible candidates must achieve certification in therapeutic medical physics within three years of hire.

Pay Range

$116.92/hour
