Job Title: Director of Safety

Russell Square Consulting is a multi-state developer and licensed general contractor with employees based in five states in the western half of the United States. We specialize in multifamily development and are responsible for all phases of the real estate development process from site selection to lease-up.

Our current pipeline consists of 2300+ apartments slated to begin construction over the coming 14 months in various states. We are seeking an experienced Director of Safety to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Director of Safety will develop, coordinate, and implement occupational health policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations in the organization for our commercial multi-family work.

This individual will directly report to the Principal as well as the Vice President and will also be responsible for making moderate to significant improvements of processes, systems, or products to enhance performance of projects and RSC company.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Maintain the OSHA safety log and other administrative requirements related to safety operations and regulations.
  • Ensure completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Collaborate with Site and Safety Coordinators to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide guidance and support to the safety committee.
  • Provide project team with guidance and keeps current on all health and safety regulations and confirms project site fulfills industry, local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Conduct safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments.
  • Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Develop and oversee Emergency Action Plans, Site Specific Safety Plans, and Pre-Task Plans, and serves as primary contact for project site injury and incident notification, investigation, and case management.
  • Reviews accident and incident reports.
  • Utilizes digital platforms, tools and systems for tracking and trending EH&S metrics and activities and creates EH&S plans and reporting documentation. Responsible for submitting reports and communicating performance to all affected groups.
  • Receives, tracks, and maintains all EH&S related documentation (Daily reports, orientations, incident reports, training records, subcontractor safety plans, pretask plans, etc.)
  • Identifies potential risks related to operations and project execution.
  • Reports on the status of projects to project team and executive leadership.
  • Maintains safety training certifications and stays current with industry trends.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to create, implement, and conduct training.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred in Environmental Health and Safety, Construction Management or related discipline and minimum 5 years relevant experience in large scale commercial, government, or industrial sectors.
  • At least five years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial environment required.
  • CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
  • Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, OSHA, 30hour Construction Safety and Industry Standards plus familiarity with DOE 10 CFR Part 851 highly desirable
  • Building and construction knowledge and reviewing for EH&S risks and exposures during all phases of a project.
