Child Care Aide I

Temecula Valley Unified School District

THE POSITION:
Under the supervision of the Child Care Program Director and the Program Assistant, is responsible for implementing and supervising instructional activities for children at the Child Care Program and performs related duties as required. This position will follow a work schedule consistent with the operation of the Child Care Program.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Positions in this class receive direct supervision from the Program Supervisor and Program Assistant.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
The duties listed are typical, but not exclusive:

• Implements and supervises instructional activities in accordance with Child Care Program and District policies and procedures.
• Assists the Child Care Aide II's in preparation for instruction and clean-up activities.
• Follows procedures to protect the health and safety of children.
• Assists in maintaining a safe, stimulating and attractive physical environment.
• Carries out established discipline plan.
• Maintains effective relationships with children.
• Assists in serving snacks and doing required clean-up.
• Provides general clerical support.
• Attends staff meetings and required programs.
• Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge of:

• General needs and behavior of children, Kindergarten through Grade 5.
• Techniques of positive communication.
• Rules, regulations, laws and policies governing child care program.
• District philosophy, policies and procedures.

Ability to:

• Establish and maintain a safe, healthful and educational environment for children.
• Communicate effectively.
• Implement and supervise learning activities.
• Consistently maintain discipline.
• Maintain good attendance records.
• Treat all children with dignity and respect.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
• Experience working with school age children in a group setting.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Must possess a First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate.
  • Must pass Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting)
  • Provide a clear TB test
