Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Welder 2nd Shift to join our manufacturing team at Access Dubuque. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality of our products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Connect cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by our quality control team.
  • Start power supply to produce electric current and strike an arc to melt and deposit metal from electrode to workpiece.
  • Manually guide electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
  • Examine weld for bead size and other specifications, and apply filler rod manually to supply weld metal.
  • Clean or degrease weld joint or workpiece, and repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes.
  • Prepare broken parts for welding by grooving or scarring surfaces, and chip off excess weld, slag, and splatter.
  • Preheat workpiece with hand torch or heating furnace, and position and clamp workpieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture.
  • Tack assemblies together, and ensure all work is completed to the highest quality standards.
Requirements
  • One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence, and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts, and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Working Conditions

The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with a focus on quality and productivity. The employee will be required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee will also be required to talk or hear, and occasionally climb or balance, stoop or kneel.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and be able to adjust focus. The employee will be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, and the employee will be required to work in a team environment with a focus on quality and productivity.
